Young Fauldhouse writer Jessica takes top story prize
25 June, 2012Budding author Jessica Grimley from St John the Baptist Primary School in Fauldhouse has been named West Lothian's Young Writer of the Year 2012.
Jessica's essay 'Sophie's Guilt' scooped the top prize which was presented by Depute Provost Dave King at a special ceremony in Howden Park Centre on Friday evening.
Depute Provost Dave King said: "I would like to congratulate Jessica on winning the Young Writer of the Year. Her thought provoking and imaginative story of two sisters really grabbed the judges' attention.
"I would also like to pay tribute to all the winners of the other categories and indeed all of the young people who took the time to enter the competition. The children all demonstrated remarkable grasp of language and showcased their talents as young writers. Hopefully, by participating in this event, they will continue to write stories and develop their skills.
"The variety of subjects covered and the many writing styles meant that the judges had a difficult task."
Hilda Gibson from Library & Heritage Services, who organised the annual event, thanked everyone involved and said: "I continue to be inspired by our young people and the work they produce. Well done to everyone that took part."
